In the morning news on January 26, it was reported that Tesla is developing the next-generation HW4 hardware, which can be used in the new 4DFSD (Four-Dimensional Fully Autonomous Driving) fully autonomous driving package currently under development. According to industry sources, Boost will cooperate with Samsung to jointly develop this new 5-nanometer chip.

Currently, the Tesla team is working hard to develop a more sophisticated artificial intelligence framework to provide its vehicles with autonomous driving capabilities. South Korean media AsiaE reported that Samsung is currently developing a 5-nanometer chip to provide computing power for Tesla's self-driving cars. The 5-nanometer chip is a high-tech product, and only a few companies in the world have the production capacity of this chip.

Samsung is currently providing 14-nanometer chips for Tesla, and now the two companies have expanded the scope of cooperation. The in-vehicle infotainment system (IVI) uses a variety of chips such as processors, neural network processors (NPU), security integrated circuits, memory and display driver ICs (DDI). It is considered to be a core technology that processes information from sensors, lighting and communications in the car and transmits it to the screen to enable the vehicle to achieve fully autonomous driving. Tesla plans to further modernize IVI, so Samsung is currently focusing on development in this direction.

In August 2020, it was reported that TSMC stated that the new high-performance computing (HPC) chips jointly developed by Broadcom and Tesla will be produced using TSMC’s advanced 7-nanometer process. According to the company, production of the new chip will begin in the fourth quarter of 2020, and about 2,000 will be produced for testing in the initial stage. The company expects that mass production of chips will begin after the fourth quarter of 2021.

However, Samsung believes that it has the ability to skip the development of 7-nanometer chips and immediately begin to develop 5 nanometer chips. If the company can successfully do this, Nano Samsung can reach a supply agreement with Tesla and become a 5-nanometer chip production leader of.
